As one accustomed to powerlessness, the daily news retriggers trauma and it takes hours of my day simply to reclaim the power "presence and tenderness" require - it requires time spent in the presence of others who are suturing with their presence and tenderness too. There is a poem about anticipating and accepting grief - befriending grief. I do not know the poet but what you said above, she said in the poem - at least both spoke to me the same way.
