Mourning during a Time of Giving Thanks
Stewarding Another Possible World
Tuesday night, while I was flying home from Denver, CO, Inclusion Tennessee gathered folks to have a vigil for those who were murdered at Club Q in Colorado Springs, CO. I was asked to speak, but was in flight home, so my beloved partner shared my remarks. A dear comrade, Olivia, filmed the remarks and I’m sharing them here with you, now.
On a day when many people just move on and celebrate Thanksgiving with no acknowledgement to the violence and destruction around us, I want to invite us into a time of mourning and lament, so that we are motivated to make change.
A politics of grievance doesn’t get us to a just world or a peaceable kingdom. Lament and justice create conditions for another possible world.
