I remember in the mid-90s when I was in seminary and was leading a women's Bible study with a pretty conservative crew talking about this concept. I even had an article from sojourners for a reference for them. And I remember one gal really pushing back from the whole concept of collective responsibility. The whole concept of collective care... it really blew my mind!
I don’t know if there is a single truth. I might react differently to the same exact encounter depending on my mood, how tired or hungry I am, etc.
